2012 Angullong Sauvignon Blanc

Tasted amongst a raft of Australian Sauvignon Blancs and it shone like a beacon on a moonless night. Personally, I think Orange is the best region in Australia when it comes to the variety. I also suspect that it’s what Orange does best…at least for the moment. I’m not so sure the region wants to hear that though.

Grass over a sprinkle of cut herbs. Nothing too pungent. It’s got that regional citrus core balancing the passionfruit and Bethonga pineapple tropicals. Intensity within a linear framework with remarkable thrust through the back-palate even if it isn’t the longest of finishes. The lance-like acidity is mouthwatering but there’s an affable and cultivated aspect about it that makes for great drinking. 92 Very Good
