2012 Thomas Wines The O.C. Semillon

“We’ve been on the run
Driving in the sun
Looking out for number one
California here we come
Right back where we started from”

The manner in which popular culture infiltrates our brains is so insidious. I’ve never watched an episode of ‘The O.C.’ and lords knows I never want to, but the theme song comes into my mind whenever I look at a bottle of Thomas Wines O.C. Semillon…

More than a passing resemblance to Sauvignon Blanc here, but much better than most expressions of that variety. It’s more forward and tropical than the Braemore with a healthy handful of chopped herbs – dill, lemon thyme and some more pungent stuff. There’s plenty of citrus balance though, a good back-palate and decent length. On day two the traditional Semillon characters come into greater focus. Still, probably better suited to early drinking. 89 Good
