Tasting Circe’s two single vineyard Pinot Noirs from 2011 side by side is certainly an experience. I’ve much love for this Red Hill South Vineyard expression already, which isn’t to say it won’t age. In fact, I’m pretty sure it will be a lot better in five or so years. The Hillcrest Road Vineyard is rather more impenetrable – so much so that I’m going to take the fifth and leave it unreviewed for now. For mine, it needs more time before any concrete judgements can be made. But back to the lovely wine at hand…
High toned red cherry with darker fruit accents lurking beneath. Charcuterie, sous-bois (with a pleasing dampness) and a smoky background. It doesn’t want for structure – natural acidity brightens the corners and fine, stringy tannin shapes the finish. A fascinating wine that walks a line between cerebral stimulation and sheer elegant drinking pleasure. Time is on its side, yes it is. Very Good – Excellent
