2010 Eastern Peake Intrinsic Chardonnay

There are a lot of Chardonnay drinkers out there feeling disenfranchised by the move towards leaner, dare I say it, Chablis-esque interpretations that are having their time in the sun. Me, I’m happy with some body, butter and weight if there’s enough definition and I’m all for the laser-like precision shown by the best linear stylings. I like diversity. But sometimes I have to draw the line.

For a two year old wine, this feels rather evolved and flabby. Butterscotch, caramel, peach, roasted cashews and poultry on the nose. It’s completely round with almost no evidence of proper shape or form. I do like the funkier poultry notes though. Oh, and there’s some woodspice at the end. This may do it for some people but I’m not one of them. Average
