2010 Yalumba Y-Series Shiraz

I know a hell of a lot of people who don’t like to pay more than $15 for a bottle of wine…and I totally get that. Not everyone need share my obsessions. It is good to know that they can still get a fair deal of quality at this price point. The two producers who I usually recommend are Yalumba (for their Y-Series) and De Bortoli (for their Windy Peak label).

A good year for the Barossa and it’s filtered down into this more-or-less entry-level wine. It’s quite fresh, has good flow and decent shape and length. It smells and tastes of blackberry and plums with maybe a hint of purple fruit. Sweet but not overly so with genial tannin contributing dry refreshment to the back-palate. Some spice, licorice and vanilla/choc oak too. Simple but tasty. Lots of value here. 88 Good
