2012 Brown Brothers Tasmania Sauvignon Blanc

I’m quite excited by Brown Brothers’ acquisition of Tasmanian vineyards and I’ve been keen to see what it produces in terms of their portfolio – sparkling in particular (I hope). This is their first wine sourced entirely from the Apple Isle and it’s a good’un.

Slight spritz is visible in the glass. The aromas are pleasant; gooseberry, pear and melon with agreeably restrained cut grass and herbs. Not overly pungent, thank goodness. The palate is clean and crisp but not without subtle textural nuances. And the back palate, where so many Savvys go missing, is worthwhile. It finishes with gentle saline minerality, green apple and a little citrus. I’m not just trying to be objective here. I actually really enjoyed drinking this. Good – Very Good

  1. Paul Williams says:

One of the best Sauv Blancs I have ever tasted, well balanced with that luscious gooseberry ever present but not dominating such a fine refreshing drop.

  2. Yes, very much how I saw it Paul. One of the best Australian or New Zealand pure fruited expression of Sauvignon Blanc (by which I mean no use of oak or obvious lees) that I tasted this year.

    Cheers
