Speccy labeling from the team at Mitchell Harris. Befits the wine, their first Sparkling release. Winemaker John Harris spent time plying his trade at Domaine Chandon and it shows in the confident expression in front of me. It’s a blend of 65% Macedon Chardonnay, 24% Macedon Pinot and 11% Pyrenees Chardonnay. Three years on lees, 5 grams per litre residual.
Golden hued with the presence and power I’ve come to expect from ‘Macedons’ but plenty of structure and some finesse as well. Lemon biscotti and citrus zest, underplayed red fruits, almond cake and ginger spice. Yeasty autolysis characters are balanced and contribute extra depth. Feels good in the mouth and the chalky dry finish begs you to take another sip. Very Good – Excellent
