2011 Inkwell Blonde on Blonde Viognier Savignan

“Won’t you take me to Funkytown” – Pseudo Echo
“That’s cool…..but can you imagine Doobie in your funk?’ – George Clinton on David Bowie

I could have led off with a Bob Dylan quote given the name of the wine but I prefer to mess with people’s heads. Funky, feral little number here. Clear use of oxidative handling. It’s extremely floral too. Quirky.

Peach, turkish apricot, honeysuckle and orange blossom bloom from the glass. Complex texture; begins with some oily-ness before tightening and allowing the Savignan to play its hand of steely acidity. The phenolics are extraordinary. The most refined and genteel that I’ve experienced. Plenty of ginger spice too. With air it actually tightens up a bit, allowing for clearer expression of primary fruit, but the solids component is always present. Quite exciting all up. Very Good
