For those of you who enjoyed the 2011 Yalumba Y Series Vermentino (as I did), this is a step up again. It’s much in the same mold but you get more depth, more complexity and greater length.
Use of lees is bang on, with the florals not getting rattled by the rush. There’s still a yeasty edge here though. It’s a play between savoury, sour, tart, sweet and salty flavours. Pears and nuts, honeycomb and pith all share the stage with a more driven lemon citrus spine. The finish is persuasive and slightly briney. Satisfying stuff. Good – Very Good
