An absolutely terrific Grenache from Michael Fragos and Bryn Richards at Chapel Hill. It’s got depth, personality and confidence. As much as I love Shiraz I suspect Grenache will end up being Chapel Hill’s best variety in time. This was just a joy to drink.
It’s layered with a vein of savouriness running through it. Fresh raspberry, licorice, wild herbs, earth, meat and iron are the main players flavour-wise. The architecture is spot on with sensible acidity and a fair amount of sandy tannin. Despite the ABV, it’s about medium bodied and will improve with a stint in the cellar. A satisfying wine on all levels. Excellent
