Somewhat unexpectedly, it’s the red wine in Yalumba’s “Organic” stable that stands out as being the best offering from the 2011 vintage. It’s all about drinkability. Don’t you just hate it when someone says that?
Very ‘walk in the black forest’ on the nose with black cherry fruit dominating. There’s a little sweet spice, sandalwood and pepper for good measure. Can’t see much in the way of oak stopping this from sliding down easily either. The stalky/foresty edge is crucial to the success of the wine. It adds interest and works as a foil against the natural sweetness on offer. Reckon I’ll sink a few bottles of this if I can find anyone who retails it in Brisbane. Good
