Up until I now I’ve tended to think of Mudhouse as a producer of solid commercial wines in the premium price bracket. This Central Otago Pinot, though, is of far more interest and value.
There’s plenty of savoury and spicy nuance accompanying the sweeter regional plummy intensity. It’s beautifully perfumed too with an enchanting cherry blossom fragrance in the foreground. Malty, chocolatey oak plays a positive role and long strands of tannin stretch out on the finish. For all that, it may be the silky mouthfeel that most impresses me here. Definitely one to look out for. Excellent
