2011 Henschke Julius Riesling

I first tasted this at the Brisbane Fine Wine Partners ‘Feast’ event in August and I was quite taken with it. Last week I spent a few hours looking at it again. There’s no doubt it’s a quality wine but I wasn’t as enamoured the second time around.

It smells and tastes of ripe lime, citrus zest, apple blossom, fennel seed and wet slate. There’s a little breadth to the line – I’m guessing that there is some residual sugar at play here (although I wouldn’t call it off-dry) but it is in balance. Nice extension through the back palate where the wine tightens up and finishes crisply. Good – Very Good
