For those unfamiliar with the ‘clos Clare’ label, current owners Tom and Sam are grandsons of the legendary Jim Barry – the first qualified winemaker to work in the Clare Valley. The fruit for this wine is sourced from 40 year old dry-grown vines adjoining the Florita Vineyard from which John Vickery crafted the renowned Leo Buring Rieslings of the 1960s and 1970s. Not a bad pedigree all up.
Delicate but not entirely austere. A pretty nose of lemon, citrus blossom and bath salts. It’s minerally and focussed with lemon and orange fruit wrapped around whippet-like acidity. Impressive thrust through the back-end. Fun to drink now but has the potential to develop some real complexity over the next ten to fifteen years. Very Good – Excellent
