2006 Cloudy Bay Pelorus

I’m quite fond of the Pelorus NV. It’s one of the better sparkling wine options available for less than $30. This is the first time I’ve tried the vintage version though. Richer and fuller as one might expect but a little stilted and blunt for mine.

Honeyed on the nose and palate. Loaded with almonds, caramel, apricots and brioche. Oak is prominent. Quite broad although some citrus tries to assert itself down the centre. Not a linear wine and it pulls up a touch short and coarse on a grippy finish. There’s a trashy appeal here – the sort associated with East Coast rap and ripped bodies hung heavy with bling…still, one can’t help but feel that it’s over-compensating for something. Good
