2011 Chapel Hill il Vescovo White

A new release under Chapel Hill’s ‘il Vescovo’ banner, this is a blend of Savagnin, Verdelho and Roussanne. I wanted to like it more than I actually did.

Smells a bit like an orange and fennel salad drizzled lightly with Leatherwood honey. There’s a suggestion of green tea as well. All very promising. It swells in the mouth immediately after entry before waxy qualities and white grape tannin pull it into shape again. Loads of character but it’s stilted and lacks a proper sense of flow - although it did improve with time in the glass. May be better with a few more months under its belt. Average – Good

Re-tasted August 2012. Phenolics have settled into the wine, much better flow. New Rating: 90 Good
