2010 Giant Steps Gladysdale Vineyard Pinot Noir

Giant Steps’ winemaker Steve Flamsteed is eloquent, quick witted and looks like the most handsome Thunderbird you’ll ever see. I met him briefly at the Yarra Valley Wine Program last week but sadly didn’t get the chance to have a proper chat. It’s on my ‘to do’ list…

Bright raspberry and cherry mingle with a little red licorice strap. It’s lithe and reasonably linear with attractive spice and smudgy, stemmy tannin. The fine, embedded acidity is typical of the excellent vintage as is the vitality with which the wine presents itself. Vibrant and with a pleasing sweetness that is balanced by Provencal herbs. Plenty of cola and red fruit persistence. Balanced and poised, this should develop beautifully over the ensuing years. Excellent
