2010 Capital Wines The Ambassador Tempranillo

Canberra 13.2% Screwcap $27

Another impressive rendition of Tempranillo in this country. Capital Wines seem to be developing a very good working relationship with the variety. This one is bright, juicy and enticingly flavoured. Particularly impressive for six year old vines and a challenging vintage.

A rather extravagant nose presenting cherries as well as blue and red berries. Cinnamon, sarsaparilla and vanilla too, further complexed by suggestions of tree bark and unshelled peanuts. There’s a fair amount of fine tannin on the finish, binding together in stubby clumps. If that doesn’t sound appealing, don’t worry. It is.

Best consumed in the full flush of its youth I’d suggest.
