2009 Westend 3 Bridges Durif

Now under screwcap for your peace of mind…

Riverina 14.5% Screwcap $20.95

A rather refined, perhaps introverted rendition of Australian Durif – given the variety that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Plum, blackberry, vanilla, dark chocolate, cloves, blood and red soil on the nose. Far from cumbersome or heavy in the mouth and the finish is loaded with intense, gum flooding caramel tannin. Structure is dominant over flavour. It’s actually a touch dilute.

There’s enjoyment to be had here and the price ain’t bad but it all left me thinking “what if?”…with a little more intensity this could be a very good wine.
