2008 Oakridge 864 Cabernet Sauvignon

Yarra Valley 13.5% Screwcap $60

Oakridge is rapidly gaining a (deserved) reputation for producing some of the best Chardonnay in Australia…but that’s not the only variety of interest being crafted and honed at 864 Maroondah Hwy, Coldstream, Victoria. The Yarra Valley’s elevation varies between 50m-540m above sea level with this Cabernet sourced from a dry grown vineyard sitting at 80m ASL.

An elegant nose of black berry/cherry and cassis with able backing from leaf, coal and spice. I’m immediately reminded of why I rate good Yarra Cabernet so highly. Concentrated but fresh fruit flavour kicks proceedings off on a juicy, sweet note but trademark Cabernet savouriness follows in its footsteps fairly quickly. An assured dry finish full of minerally goodness is wonderfully refreshing and the tannins are of the highest quality; ripe and fine.

It’s a medium bodied, blushing beauty destined to grow old with true grace. Exquisite.
