2010 Jamsheed Harem Series Pepé Le Pinot

Yarra Valley 12.5% Screwcap $21

If I could afford to have a “House” Pinot then I may well choose this wine. There’s an intriguing wildness accompanying the dark cherries and red fruits. Increasingly I find that I don’t like my Pinot too prim and proper.

Settled acidity, long tannins and a hint of creaminess on the mid-palate. Good spice too – cloves, cinnamon etc. Maybe a little rhubarb. Intensity without heaviness and a worthwhile finish.

It’s drinking surprisingly well as a youngster, which isn’t to say it won’t last a few years. Still, I’d be enjoying this sooner rather than later. There’s more than enough interest here already. Really good wine, really good price.
