2010 Mitchell Harris Sauvignon Blanc Fumé

Pyrenees 12.5% Screwcap $22

From the website:

Cloudy juice run into barrel for wild yeast fermentation. No malo-lactic fermentation. 6 months ageing in French (20% new) and old Hungarian oak. A further 5 months bottle ageing prior to release April 2010

It’s certainly a Fumé. Just smell that smoke. Once again, fruit flavours are not the main player here (although lemons and limes are apparent). No, this wine focuses on texture and depth. Layered, gentle acidity…a really complex kind of softness. There’s a smattering of herbs and notable length too.

The amount of interest delivered for such a reasonable price should be applauded. I’m an unabashed fan of this type of expression and the team at Mitchell Harris have nailed it.
