Orange 12.7% Screwcap $30
Of a bevy of savys opened this week, two stood out; this and a 2010 Mitchell Harris. Very different interpretations though, and very different wines. Sauvignon Blanc may be ubiquitous but it most certainly does not need to be homogeneous.
The 2009 Ross Hill is all about clarity, shape and persistence. It’s not a fruity wine but it is extremely intense. A reticent nose of lemon, linseed, citrus and shy tropicals. A little grass too, not so much herb action. Totally linear on the palate with driving penetration through out.
I believe that we are onto the next vintage now but this one is still sprightly and young. One could argue that the price is a touch steep but there is plenty of quality here.
