Cowra 13.5% Screwcap $19.95
Cowra is predominately thought of as a white wine producing region but Swinging Bridge have knocked up a nice, easy drinking Shiraz from 15 year old vines planted on their own estate. Interesting to read that they have been working closely with the Yalumba Nursery to find the best clones for their site. Always good to see larger, established producers working with smaller wineries.
The confected aromas take a while to blow off and, indeed, the wine showed its best on the second day of tasting. Sweet blackberry and plums with plenty of vanilla, all tempered by mocha flavours. It’s around medium bodied and quite juicy with some grainy tannin and decent length.
A touch simple but it drinks well enough as a casual week night wine…and that’s pretty much what it is.

Jeremy, i believe there are some good reds coming out of Cowra now, probably to do with increasing vine age. Have come across 1 or 2 raised eyebrow moments. As I'll be heading up there shortly for vintage, will be able to report from closer to the action..
Thanks Andy. I must admit to not having tasted many Cowra reds at all. Will have to keep my eyes (and mind) open. Look forward to hearing more after you've worked vintage.
cheers
