2008 Whicher Ridge Elevation Cabernet Sauvignon

Geographe 13.5% Screwcap $35 Source: Sample

I’m not quite sure why, but until now, I’ve been unaware of the Whicher Ridge wines. They’ve been given positive press by wine writers I respect and, on the back of these new releases, I can see why. This is a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon from the Geographe region. It’s all finesse and elegance.

Aromas of blueberries and mulberries, what could only be described as cigar box characters, and some mint. The palate adds a savoury black olive dimension and some dark chocolate shavings. Quality French oak is noticeable but very much in balance with the fruit. It should integrate well with more time in the bottle.

There’s sense of purpose throughout the entire line, which is well structured by grainy tannin. It looks to have a bright future ahead of it. A class act.

I'm not sure that I've heard about Whicher Ridge wines either, but if they are making good Cabernet then I'm all ears. Geographe not a region you hear much about either. Capel Vale the only winery I'm really familiar from there
