2009 Teusner The Riebke Shiraz

Barossa 14.5% Screwcap $18.95 Source: Retail

It’s back, resplendent with new clothing. I like the changes made to the label very much. This is a classy wine and it deserves to look its best. What I love most about The Riebke as a wine though, is that maintains a consistantly high quality yet changes from year to year, as I believe a wine should. There may indeed be a recipe, but the results show that neither ingredients nor the maker stay entirely the same.

This is an even better wine than the last two vintages for mine. It’s lush and generous with plums, blackberries and a little sweet blueberry. Chocolate coated brazil nuts feature along with a dash of pepper and some welcome earthiness. It’s not really a gentle sweetness, but it never goes too far. There is always shape to the delicious flow of flavours which reach their conclusion with the help of chalk dust tannins which almost dissolve in the mouth.

Once again, this will become a staple choice for many drinkers at its price point. And it deserves nothing less.
