2008 Hoddles Creek Chardonnay

Yarra Valley 13.5% Screwcap $22.50 Source: Retail

I’m probably the last wine enthusiast in Australia to finally get around to tasting some Hoddles Creek wines.  Believe the hype, they are that good and the price is amazing.  I’m obviously a little slow sometimes.  Some may even suggest I’m generally dim…

Grapefruit over lemon, nectarine bordering on white stonefruit, meal (oat?) and very good oak, tastefully applied. Gorgeous wood spice, fantastic structure and acidity. Endless finish, effortless intensity. Honeysuckle on finish with hazelnuts.  Mealy and textural but without being too heavily worked or sacrificing any finesse. Becomes deliciously nutty with time in the glass.

Funky, smoky and even more gooder as it warms up. Struck match anyone? Go buy this, some retailers still have it. Otherwise, the word is the 09 is very good too.
