2007 Blue Poles Allouran

Margaret River 14.0% Screwcap $25 Source: Winery

I’m rather late on the scene when it comes to writing this wine up, but I only just put my order in.  It’s very, very good.  I planned on trying one bottle and sending the rest to the cellar but a second got opened somehow.  The ridiculously low price for a wine of this quality may have played a role in it.

Anywho, no great philosophical points to be made here today.  Just a brief description of the sort of wine I personally could not have too many bottles of.

66 % Merlot, 33% Cabernet Franc with the remaining 1% a secret no doubt.  It’s a tad fleshier and richer than the 2006, but there is ample structure in place.  Indeed, I’d say its best days are a fair way off yet.  Plums, fresh raspberries and some blue fruits are joined by grassy and dusty traits and some coffee beans.  Savoury dark chocolate too.  Much evolution throughout my tasting of it.  It’s the sort of wine that doesn’t photograph that well, as it has the kind of beauty that moves (Apologies to Miss DiFranco for the [ab]use of her lyrics).  Violets bloom on the nose from time to time, but the tasty spiciness is ever-present.  Exceptional length and tannins.  Do yourself a favour…

    Thanks Molly.

Already convinced anyway on this. I look forward to trying the '08 version.

    Lol :)

I'm looking forward to the 08 too. Speaking of which, I'm lucky enough to have the 08 Reserve Merlot here right now. Just waiting for the right time to taste it. 8.17am is probably a little too early…
