2009 Smallfry Cabernet Grenache Rosé

Eden Valley 11.8% Screwcap $18 Source- Sample

An extremely smart Rosé from Smallfry that’s fast becoming one of my Summer favourites. Much lighter than the 2008 which scored as highly as any Rosé in Halliday’s 2010 wine guide. That said, I actually prefer this style.

Smells of freshly sliced watermelon, raspberries, sour cherries and boiled lollies with some tobacco leaf and tinned beetroot in the background. The palate profile follows in similar fashion with a pleasing savoury aspect accompanying rose water sweetness. Not a whole heap of residual sugar here resulting in a refreshingly dry finish of commendable length. There’s also gentle rub of tannin that works a treat texturally speaking. Very adaptable when it comes to food, although I’m partial to drinking it with jamón myself.

Only 120 cases produced.

    Haha jamon!

I'm reminded of the first time I discovered jamon – we were at a Tapas restaurant and the menu read; 'acorn fed jamon' – without knowing what it was we thought it might be squirrel! But we ordered some anyway…. ;)

Lol :) And you never looked back? Cured pork will be the death of me I tell you!
