2008 Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay

Yarra Valley 13.5% Screwcap $29 Source- Retail

Even though the winery recently lampooned my mathematical abilities I’m still going to give this wine a bit of a rave. See how fair I am? :)

Mind you, I’m not going to be cracking any more bottles of it for another two years. It’s tighter than the The J.B’s at the moment.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_J.B.%27s ) If you want to give it a go now I’d suggest decanting it.

A sour/savoury wine comprised of nectarines, white peach, hazelnuts & bread with hints of oak derived spice and some roast poultry on the nose. Seriously fine boned and masterfully put together, this wine will shine given some time in the cellar. Everything is in place. Now the wait begins.

Went to Giant Steps for Dad's birthday yesterday and also tried their wines. It has to be one of the strongest line-ups in the Yarra Valley; especially their single vineyard chardonnays and pinots. I prefered the Tarraford to the Sexton but both are classy wines. The Sexton with more intensity, especially upfront, and the Tarraford with a tad more focus and length. Getting to taste them next to each other is always fun.

My sentiments exactly Dave, right down to the preference for the Tarraford vineyard and the reasons why.

I've a soft spot for the Harry's Monster too.

    cheers

Funny you mention it cause so do I. One of the better cabernet blends in the Yarra valley
