Muscadelle grapes have been picked late to provide a rich and unctuous experience. “Trex Doux” indeed. But it’s the pineapple and orange rind cutting through the lusciousness that make this a wine of distinction. You can’t drink a whole lot of it, but its still delicious and amply balanced.
It presents as a toffeed amber liquid and the legs that linger on the edges of the glass as you swirl give you a good idea of the texture and mouth feel ahead. Nutty treacle, dark honey, and candied fruits provide the basis for the flavour profile with the citrus and rind adding excellent lift to the viscous elements. There is even a touch of lemon sugar crépes about it at times.
A decadent nectar with superb persistence, it worked a treat with a Panettone bread and butter pudding that was still warm from my oven.

As a lover of dessert wines, my mouth is watering…
I actually found it quite bizarre that the pineapple worked so well. Maybe the next "mega tasting" should be dessert wines?
