2008 Coriole Chenin Blanc

McLaren Vale 13.0% Screwcap $15

I tasted the 2009 of this at the Fine Wine Partners trade fair just recently. Liked it a lot. Picked this up on the weekend. Didn’t do it for me.

Brown pear, apple, spice, lemon and honey. The wine seemed quite developed. Very honeyed & a touch clumsy and heavy handed on the palate. Not a lot of movement or flow either. The flavour and textures pretty much just hitting the mouth and hanging around for a while. The lemon helped things out a bit and some passionfruit skirted the edges adding interest.

I came back to it several hours later and it tasted a tad dirty. Let’s just say I’m hoping to see the 2009 on retail shelves soon.

I agree with you here Jeremy. 2009 is a good step up from the 2008, it's got much more refreshing, cleaner acidity and a nice fruit base. Quite an ideal quaffer really.

On an unrelated note your previous post on the poetics of tasting notes inspired my final words in my 1998 E+E Sparkling Shiraz review recently. It's a little different to what I'd usually write but in this instance I thought:- what the hell.

    Your influence has begun!

    Cheers,

Yep, I purchased it thinking it might be refreshing during a hot weekend. The 2008 was not really that sort of wine.

I liked the E+E Sparkling note. I can't really take any credit for starting the idea though, just tried to highlight what I saw as already going on and emphasise its worth.

    Cheers Chris.
