I read about a Lovedale Vineyard field blend being made in secret by Gwyn Olsen during her tenure at Mount Pleasant. This is perhaps what came of that exploration. It’s a blend of Chardonnay, Verdelho and Semillon. The winemaker is listed as vineyard manager Paul Harvey on the front label.
Citrus blossom. Quietly spoken with lemon and thyme joined by Nashi pear, stonefruit, light melon flavour and a little spice. Slate-like minerality and a suggestion of traction. Tangy citrus drives through the finish. All whispers and gossip on the first day of tasting but on day two it fleshes out into lemon curd, vanilla and overt tropical fruits while a rounded mouthfeel comes into play. I presume that’s the direction it will take with time in the bottle. Pretty tasty either way. 90
