Some very worthwhile micro producers in the Yarra Valley. Anthony Fikkers makes this, a Shiraz, a Meunier and it looks like he’s got his hands on some Pinot this year. From a dry-grown vineyard in the Upper Yarra planted 1980. 80% Sauvignon Blanc 18% Semillon and 2% Muscadelle. Indigenous yeast, old barrels.
Whispy smoke, limes and lemons, aniseed, granite, grass and grip with some faint passionfruit and tart gooseberry in betwixt. Mineral-citrus extension. Savoury sourdough provides the belly of the wine and the palette on which the fruits are combined. Flavour builds through the line. The acidity hustles and bustles just under the surface. 92
