The second time I’ve tasted Timo Mayer’s Württemberg Riesling. It’s going to receive a higher rating than the 2011 but whether it’s a better wine or just a matter of me warming to the style I’m unsure.
Palate weight and shapely voluptuousness within a Riesling paradigm. You could throw all manner of flavour and aroma descriptors at it. I came up with custard apple, orchard blossom, cologne, lemon tarts and freshly baked loaves of bread. Deeply flavoured with grippy phenolics. Finishes gingery and spicy with a touch of slate. Feels good in the mouth and is utterly delicious. 93
