Yes, the 2010 Yangarra High Sands is a stunning wine and yes, most of us will struggle to afford it. But if you want to get an idea of Yangarra’s stylistic take on the variety and grab a damn fine Grenache at the same time then this won’t stretch your budget quite as far.
Opens up reductively but begins to sing on the second day (or you could just decant it). Muscular, ferrous tannin flexes underneath a veneer of silkiness. It remains meaty, earthen, peaty and primal but all those savoury traits that anchor the wine are lit up by dark cherries, potpourri and sweet-salty licorice. This is Grenache that goes beyond the idea of juicy primary fruit into true vinous engagement and provocative structural edifice. 92+

What a great note. Love what Pete and Shelly are doing over there. Top notch wines.
Yep, a great team – and Michael’s work on the viticulture front pretty stunning as well. First class operation.
