More of Ben Haines vinous exploration of the globe will be showcased this year including this Rosé from a vineyard in Ventoux on the south-eastern fringes of the southern Rhône. The site sits at 500 metres above sea level on pebbly, calcareous terrain.
Very pale, salmon-onion in the glass. It smells of strawberry shortcake over cherries and citrus with a touch of fairy floss. A skim milk mouthfeel, spicy throughout. Distinguished length with a chalky mineral edge. The sweetness is noticeable but in balance. It’s not really my style of Rosé but I enjoyed a glass with some jamón ibérico and later a few slabs of slow roasted lamb shoulder with vegetables. 88
