I rate this higher than any Y Series Yalumba Viognier that has come before. It has increased complexity, better structure and flow and is a lot less obvious. Alcohol feels dialled back a bit although it’s still full-bodied.
It smells and tastes of lychees, red apples, tangerine, quince, ginger and honeysuckle. Unctuous and mellifluous but never overly sweet. Savoury dimensions come from freshly baked bread and a subtle cumin earthiness. Slightly bitter and rough phenolics on a back-palate which trends toward lemon citrus flavour and refreshing cut. Very happy to see it in this kind of form. 90
