Shiraz from the Romano vineyard in the Seaview subregion of McLaren Vale, vinified by ex-Coriole winemaker Matt Broomhead. Spends eighteen months in new French hogsheads.
Fascinating aromas, the most distinctive being a kind of musky men’s cologne. Earth, plum pudding, chocolate, blackberries and blueberries all chime in. Clove spice and ample grainy tannin. A slightly old-fashioned ‘gentleman’s wine’. Some warmth and the line isn’t entirely even but there is no overtly dead fruit. Intriguing. 88
