2012 Snake + Herring Hallelujah Porongurup Chardonnay

snake herring hal chardWe all know that John Cale’s take on the song is the definitive version. And we all know that it’s time to give the song a long rest. Now to the wine.

Tight, linear, insistent and also needs a rest to get the most out of it. Wheat germ, tart grapefruit filling out to nectarine, almonds, quartz and a lick of freshly churned cream. A little firm and chewy on the backend but the balance is there. In no way is this underdone but it is coiled and its silhouette is clearly defined. Should be a belter of a wine in about five years time. Shame I can’t provide a larger bottle image. 93+

Yep, Cale’s is easily the best version.
    Didn’t it go viral but?
For old Lennie fans like me it was very much a “I told you so” time.
Ten New Songs still the most underrated album of the Noughties.

  2. Yeah, it was kind of good to see it get recognition at first but then it became a tad monotonous. Hopefully we can all come back to it and enjoy it in ten or so years time.
