2012 Cascabel McLaren Vale Carignan

cascabel graciano 2Eleven year-old vines. Two weeks maceration on skins for structure before it sits in old French oak puncheons for a further twelve months. As good as it is already, you can’t help but be excited by what lies ahead as the plantings get more age under their belt.

A meaty, earthy and slightly tarry wine. Chocolate dusted cherries, fennel seeds and spiced plum. A suggestion of stressed leather. The variety’s propensity for acidity imparts a lightness to its gait and a thread of tannin tethers the flavours. One could ask for a little more length but overall it’s a very satisfying wine. 92
