2012 Bird on a Wire Marsanne

bird on a wire marsanneA wine I’ve championed since its inception. This is the third release and probably the most accomplished. More opulent than the 2011 with a superior sense of balance in comparison to the 2010. It’s not a wine that everyone will love (don’t expect a default Tahbilk “classic dry white” interpretation) but this may well be as affable as it gets…which is fine by me. I like its edginess.

Flavours and aromas of melon, stonefruit, honeysuckle, ginger and lemon butter. It’s nutty, layered and predominately savoury. Texture is the key though. Slippery glycerol characters exist in a state of tension with bitter herbal phenolics. The acidity is bang on, providing a more orthodox element to the architecture. Chances are taken, opportunities seized. She who dares wins. 94
