2011 Tightrope Walker Yarra Valley Pinot Noir

tightrope 006A new label for McWilliam’s consisting of this Pinot and a 2012 Yarra Valley Chardonnay. The latter is the better wine but this is rather fascinating considering the vintage. I can’t tell you from whence in the region the fruit is sourced as I must have thrown out the promotional material and I can’t find any website that mentions the wine thus far.

Sweet fruit and oak are immediately apparent on the nose and palate. It’s no more than medium-bodied but there is a sense of abundance that I’ve seldom seen in a 2011 Yarra Valley Pinot. That’s going to give broader and more immediate appeal than most of its siblings. Red berries, sweet spice, pepper and a few herbaceousness notes that I’d guess are whole bunch related. Takes a while for the oak to settle but then it provides pleasant drinking. 89
