Gewürztraminer can work very well in the Orange region and with a few tweaks I think Logan might be able to get a lot more out of it.
The aromas are extroverted to say the least. Lychee, freshly baked bread, rose petals, citrus, guava and florals. It’s typically slippery in the mouth, perhaps even more so than usual. A touch too saccharine though and some heat shows on the finish - which is shame as ginger and pepper seasoning would have wrapped things up nicely otherwise. 89

Just happened to be sipping a glass of this when your email came in. Not a big gewurz fan as a rule but I’m tired of wasting other wines on curries, thai etc and as tonight was a Nigel Slater variation on a satay I thought we’d give the Logan a try. Agree about the saccharine & heat on finish. It’s a bit lacking in spice, as you say, and kind of flatish & dull to finish. Shame as there certainly is a place for something a bit better than this for spicy food. Would be happy to pay a bit more for a better wine.
I’ll publish a note on the Cargo Road Gewürztraminer 2013 from Orange soon. It’s up there with the Topper’s Mountain and Spring Vale in terms of classy Gewürz. Certainly worth the step up to see if the variety is of interest to you.
