2012 Longview W.Wagtail Brut NV

longview wwagtailWith “the race that stops the nation” (myself excluded) I though it best to get some sparkling wine reviews up. I’ve certainly been sent plenty of them lately. This was tasted in a bracket of ten. 65% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir.

ALl [sic] fruit is from Longview Vineyard. Fermented in small batch lots at low temperatures to maintain the characteristics of our terrior [sic]. Aged on lees for 5 months in stainless steel, regular batonage [sic], then blended and stabilized it is put on tirage and aged on lees for 7 months.

Coarse bead, some earthy/mushroom and slightly grubby aromas along with red fruits and citrus. Hard in the mouth with not much in the way of autolysis derived character. Short. I’d give it miss, especially given the price. 82
