Took all of three days to really hit its straps and could do with a stint in the cellar. Shiraz from Leonard Estate, planted in the 1960′s. Fermented in open vats and matured for 22 months in French hogsheads.
Black and blue berry fruits with earth and leather on the nose. Around medium-bodied but has extract and depth. Nippy acidity takes a while to settle as does the chocolate oak. A grind of pepper, some nutmeg and clove spice. Tight-grained, tacky tannin. Impressive. 93+
