2013 SC Pannell Aromatico

image

With no SC Pannell Bianco being produced in 2013 this is handy alternative. A blend of Gewürztraminer and Riesling. I know a number of people who love a good, varietally correct Gewürz but there are also those like me who sometimes feel it’s a grape that can head in the direction of caricature. I reckon this blend is bang on for those with my personal preferences. There’s plenty of refreshing lemony acidity slicing through a subliminal oiliness and it’s still evocatively aromatic.

Roses and lychees with orange zest. Texture too – a little slippery with very nuanced phenolics from eight hours on skins. Purity and freshness matched to unforced complexity and a little seductive musk. That Gewürztraminer spiciness (ginger and white pepper) hangs around on the finish along with the fruit. The restraint and freshness of of the Riesling really is the perfect foil. 93
