Carinyena is the local Catalan word for Carignan. The first El Wanderer Alt Emporda Carinyena came from the 2008 vintage. The grapes are sourced from vines over a century old and located in the far north-eastern corner of Spain. The good stuff. 30% new French oak, 10% whole bunches.
Rustic and complex. Leather, pouch tobacco, fresh red and blue berries, tomato paste and earthy undertow playing foil to the juicy acidity. A savoury core with assertive nutty tannins which are part of the essence of the variety. Has depth and endurance. Special gear. Worth laying some down for the future too. 94+
