The 2008 vintage was not without its challenges (warm and dry) but Louisa Rose and the Pewsey Vale vineyard have risen above them. The Contours is released with five years of bottle age although Rose wouldn’t mind seeing it come out after ten years if it were financially viable. Fruit comes from the oldest vines on the coolest slopes.
Beginning to develop toasty, waxy notes and by day three there was even a hint of honey. The structure is good, and there’s ample fruit intensity suggesting much room for improvement down the track. No petrol or kero either which is a huge plus. Lemons, lime marmalade, jasmine and bath salts with hints of honey drizzled melon. Gaining body but tightens on a long finish with gin and tonic/herbal refreshment. Thoroughly enjoyable now even if I’d like to see it again in another five years time. 94
