Sangiovese is a very sensible grape to use for a Rosé and Chapel Hill’s il Vescovo version has always been a more than solid wine. This isn’t my favourite release. The fruit sweetness swells on entry and then there’s some to and fro between what is essentially a dry style and some glacé cherry action.
Tart cranberry acids run through a wine that is punctuated by savoury dried herbs and a touch of scorched earth. The finish is crisp and clean with the mid-palate providing some textural interest. Drinks well but never really finds the harmony it has displayed in previous years. Still worth a look. 88
